INTRODUCTION

As with most dialects, words and phrases used by native Dundonians, change with the passing of time. DUNDONIAN FOR BEGINNERS has been written with one aim in mind, to tell it as it is. The reader will therefore not be subjected to out-of-date phrases such as, 'Hoots mon', or 'och aye the noo'. These ye olde sayings definitely went out with Nelson's eye, and no ordinary Dundonian under the age of 120 years, (with the exception of language graduates) would be able to tell you the true meanings of such phrases. In brief it reads as it sounds in the street today. Phonetics at it's best. Before you delve deeper into this book, there are a few preparations you must do first...
